Media Blasting and Non-abrasive Stripping
Media Blasting
Before powder coating, the parts must be free of paint, powder coating, and especially rust. Media blasting is a process where abrasive media, such as sand or aluminum oxide, is used to remove old coatings, rust and mill-scale from the substrate. Depending on the type of media chosen, media blasting will remove a small layer of the substrate material and will change the surface profile to a rougher texture.
Non-abrasive Stripping
If the current surface profile must be maintained, old coatings can be removed using non-abrasive methods. Note: For rust removal, parts must be media blasted!
