Our company has been in operation for 5 years and has recently expanded into a 15,000 sqft. building. Cape Fear Custom Powder Coating always welcomes new customers and we are willing to bid on any project no matter how large or small. We are constantly expanding our knowledge of powder coating techniques and incorporating new technologies and equipment into our processes. We have experience with all types of items from small ˝ inch washers to 8 ft. tall boat t-tops, car frames and 18 ft. long heavy steel fences. If it’s metal, we can coat it.

CFC Powder Coating houses a 20 foot oven with an 8ft. x 8ft. opening. This allows us to powder coat large items such as boat T-Tops and car frames or large quantities of small parts.

What is Powder Coating and how does it work?
Powder coating is a tough, decorative finish applied to various types of materials and products used by industrial companies and individual consumers. The powder is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigments and resins. Powder coating colors are virtually limitless including high and low gloss, transparent, metallic, and textured finishes. Different types of powders contain different characteristics such as chemical resistance, weatherability, and protection against UV light. The finely ground powder particles are sprayed onto a pre-treated “substrate” (item you are coating). That part (or substrate) is electrically grounded. The powder travels through a spray gun becoming positively charged. The negatively charged part attracts the positively charged powder particles and causes them to adhere to the part. The part is then placed in an oven for a specified time and temperature. Times will vary depending on the gauge and size of the part. In the oven, the powder particles will melt and cross-link (or bond with each other). This cross-linking is what gives powder coating its durability. Once the part has completed its time in the oven and is cool to the touch, it is ready to be used. There is no waiting for the powder to cure.
